Blockchain, Cryptocurrency & Digital Assets · Lebanon
Blockchain and cryptocurrency lawyer in Lebanon.
Distributed-ledger projects combine code, contracts, financial regulation, data and cross-border execution. The legal analysis begins with the activity and the rights represented—not with the label attached to a token, platform or protocol.
01
How the practice helps
Digital-asset projects & tokenisation
Legal structuring for projects involving tokens or digitally represented rights, including classification, issuance terms, ownership, transfer restrictions, disclosures and the relationship between the token and the underlying asset or service.
Smart contracts & blockchain agreements
Reviewing the legal effect of code-enabled performance, oracle dependencies, governance rules, upgrade rights, wallet control, audit obligations, suspension, termination and remedies when code and written terms diverge.
Platforms, custody & transactions
Drafting and reviewing terms for exchanges, wallets, custody arrangements and blockchain-enabled services, with attention to access, private-key risk, cybersecurity, data, fees, complaints and allocation of loss.
AML/KYC & cross-border risk
Assessing customer due diligence, transaction-monitoring, sanctions, source-of-funds and record-keeping considerations, together with jurisdiction, applicable law, foreign licensing and enforcement exposure.
02
Legal context
The legal character of the activity matters more than its technology.
Lebanon does not presently offer a single comprehensive regime comparable to the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation. A project may nevertheless engage Lebanese rules on contracts, electronic transactions, companies, securities, payments, consumer protection, personal data, criminal liability and anti-money-laundering controls. Cross-border offerings or services may also trigger foreign licensing and market-access rules. Each model must therefore be classified by function, rights, counterparties and geography.

Frequently asked questions
Direct questions deserve precise answers.
Is cryptocurrency legal in Lebanon?+
Lebanon does not currently have a comprehensive statute that simply authorises or prohibits every cryptocurrency activity. The analysis depends on what is being done: holding, transferring, offering, exchanging, providing custody, receiving payment or raising funds may engage different financial, contractual, criminal and regulatory rules.
Is a smart contract legally enforceable?+
Automated code may perform part of a transaction, but enforceability still depends on matters such as consent, capacity, lawful purpose, certainty, attribution and evidence. A robust arrangement should connect the code to written terms and address errors, upgrades, external data, suspension and dispute resolution.
Can a Lebanese blockchain project serve foreign users?+
Potentially, but online availability does not remove foreign regulatory risk. The location of users, marketing, token characteristics, custody or exchange functions and payment flows may trigger foreign rules, including licensing restrictions. The project should be mapped jurisdiction by jurisdiction before launch.
What should be preserved after a cryptocurrency dispute?+
Relevant evidence may include wallet addresses, transaction hashes, exchange records, account identifiers, communications, device records, screenshots with context, written terms and proof linking an address or account to a person. Recovery prospects also depend on custody, intermediaries, location and the speed of preservation measures.
